“Don’t believe the lie, don’t die”

By Ralph Davis

“What is impossible with man is possible with God.” (Luke 18:27) Except for? except for? except for what? It is so easy to claim faith in a living God and then grovel when we experience any type of stress or problems. It is only too common to sing songs of praise of God’s power and faithfulness, yet forget all of this when any problem surfaces. “Boo-hoo,” we cry, when unhappy events, big or small, occur and we remain fixated on our self-reliance to get us through. Even the most stanch Christian, it seems, buckles under pressure. Sadly, most of us have more faith in our own abilities than in God’s.

I’d like to introduce you to Jim Feijo, a man who made an impact on my thinking, and has caused me to examine my own level of faith since meeting with him and his wife Tricia recently at a local restaurant. Jim is a graduate of Springfield College and holds B.S. degrees in Health, Biology, and Physical Education and a M.Ed. degree in Psychological Services. Tricia is a professional homeopath. Prior to practicing homeopathy, she worked as a lab tech in cancer research for several years. Tricia has studied herbs and nutrients for many years, with interest in whole foods and healthful cooking.

Jim was raised in Fall River, Massachusetts. He described himself as a boy who was frequently in trouble of one sort or another. Trying to interest him in other things, his mother bought him an art set. He began to draw and paint pictures which he enjoyed. Later, in school he started to participate in sports and found that he was good at any that he tried. Jim said that if not for his getting involved in sports he probably would have ended up in jail. Jim received scholarships and went on to play sports in college and while there he continued to paint pictures and even won a few contests.

Jim had no interest in God and would argue against His existence to anyone. He had left the Roman Catholic Church in which he had been raised because he was informed that his monetary contributions were not adequate. Jim wrote a paper in college entitled Fear-The Reason for the Existence of a God. In order to write it, however, he had to read through the Bible, something he had never done before because of his Catholic background.

While trying to prove that there is no God, he was coaching sports and teaching in various schools. He was once noted as the youngest undefeated football coach in the country at a prep school in Pennington, NY. Once, while being carried off the field by his players after a big win, he looked into the sky and said to God, “See, I told you that I don’t need you!” Jim said, “I was too prideful and arrogant; I was not going to give in.”

It was the day before his 30th birthday that Jim sat in the back row of what he described as a “very liberal” church. Having been recently terminated from a teaching job at a college because he would not jeopardize his integrity he “was a broken man”, he said. He was in the church and mildly interested because a friend who lived in Detroit, Michigan who was also an atheist and had hated God as much as him, recently had changed his ways. He told Jim that he was forgiven and had become a believer in Jesus Christ, calling him his Lord and Savior. He shared with Jim the gospel message and Jim stated, “Until then I had never heard the words “Saved” or “Born again”.

Jim sat there deep in thought and suddenly said to God, with conviction, “Tomorrow I’m going to choose you, on my birthday.” Suddenly he saw a figure of Jesus Christ coming right at him and Jesus said, “You have not chosen me, I have chosen you.” Jim said that if he had waited until the next day then he would have been doing the choosing which would have been his own works.

In that instant he was changed; Jim said that he made a “1000% turn around.” Jim implored God, “Test me, take anything you want from me; I am completely devoted to you.” It began to happen. He had a home in Little Compton, RI and had a wife and two children. A typical living arrangement in a lovely setting yet the change was so dramatic that his wife thought he had really gone off the deep end. Their marriage was already troubled and his wife, unable to accept the changes in Jim (now a ‘Jesus Freak’) wanted to leave him. Jim tried everything, including suggesting counseling to no avail. This was the last straw for her so she took the kids and left him. Jim had essentially told her, “If you want the car you can have it, take the house and, if you want the kids, take them; I don’t want to split them up.”

Jim’s family turned against him: “What are you, crazy?” they demanded to know. He had already given up his wife, his kids, his home, and his car and now he had nothing, what next? Jim said that he had denounced everything because “That’s what had to be done.” He said to God, “this is it, whatever you want me to do or wherever you want me to go Lord. I will.” Jim became interested in street evangelism, walking the streets day and night, reaching out to those around him. He frequented the most depressed areas of Fall River and had a special focus on those leaving the bar rooms late at night. Jim said, “I just knew I had to tell people about Jesus!”

Jim and Tricia first met at the First Christian Church in... North Dartmouth, MA and saw each other frequently at a home Bible study. Like Jim, Tricia had been raised catholic and thought that she knew everything about Jesus but, through a friend of a friend, she learned that Mary had not ascended into heaven since it was not in the Bible and that there were other holes in her knowledge of Jesus. This caused her to study the Bible on her own and was convicted by some of what she read. Her life had been a real mess and she finally received Jesus Christ as her Lord. After her decision she called to apologize to her mother for all of her misdeeds and, remarkably, her mother could tell by the tone of Tricia’s voice that she had accepted Jesus Christ and had changed her life.

Jim and Tricia remained only acquaintances for quite some time. Jim had no interest in diverting his attention from God; he said that he had gotten to the point that he could live the rest of his life with no desire for anyone at all because of the peace God had given him. They sometimes got together as friends. One day Jim told her that he could no longer see her any more because he wanted to devote his life entirely to the Lord. She said that she wanted to also. They did eventually discuss marriage but then Jim told her that he could not marry her because she smoked cigarettes. She said she would quit and she did. He then said that she, being a college student, would probably be more interested in a career rather than serving God. She said she would leave school and she did, with only one year to go. Finally, Jim and Tricia were married on July 2, 1983 by Ken Harman, an elder of their church.

Friends issued warnings: what if something happened to Jim; what would Tricia do for work since she had quit school, and so on. Jim said this is the problem with believers today; they trust in their own works, depending on themselves and the ways of man. “So many of them put their trust in retirement packages, 401k’s and so on and then the company goes under and they have nothing left. They should have trusted in the Lord instead,” said Jim.

Jim came home one day to say he had quit his teaching job after seventeen years because the ‘regular paycheck’ bothered him. They cancelled their life insurance and began to rid themselves of any worldly encumbrances in order to put their faith fully in the Lord. They moved out of their apartment and lived in a campground as long as they could. They shared an interest in becoming overseas missionaries and they had several opportunities to do so. One involved smuggling Bibles into China. Suffice to say that Jim and Tricia have so many stories to share of God’s amazing provision in the missionary field, that many books could be filled.

Without a home to live in and with much prayer and faith they came upon a small house in Portsmouth, RI that had been converted for business use. The rent was too much for them and when the owner asked what they could afford, Jim said about $30. per month which he flatly refused. A few days later the owner spotted them walking on the side of the road and pulled over. He had learned that Jim was a well known football coach and he was involved in trying to find talented coaches for the local teams. He allowed them to live there for the first six months without any rent at all.

Thus, the birth of Daniel Chapter One; through God’s provision they had a place. The concept for such a store began when, following his divorce, Jim was living with a retired missionary couple. Having served in Bombay for thirty years, the woman cooked with Indian herbs. Jim soon noticed that his chronic sinus problem was healed so he began to experiment and do research into the medicinal value of those herbs. Money being very tight during the early years of their marriage, Tricia could only buy grains and beans to cook with. Once again, the medicinal value of God’s freely given foods was noted.

Tricia went to a bank for a business loan which was quickly denied. They were, however, able to locate a few companies to give them credit on supplying them with some healthy products. Jim dug up an old scale and a refrigerator somewhere and with the help of her parents they spent hours bagging up the food and stocking the rickety shelves. The store was very hot inside and soon food which needed to be kept cool and dry was due to arrive shortly. A man suddenly drove up and commented on their new business and asked if they would like to have two large air conditioners that had been refurbished! Here was God in action again, with his perfect timing, meeting the needs perfectly for those who humbly place their faith in Him!

Jim and Trish started a radio talk show in 1994 called Daniel Chapter One HealthWatch. Fresh and fast-paced, the program is live and brings to the table current health issues; “cutting through the confusion of medical madness” is one of their favorite bylines. The phone lines are usually lit up with people seeking advice about their medical condition and many are calls of appreciation because of improvement or actual healing of their problem. These callers are living proof of human ailments being healed through all natural God-given nutrients. During the past twenty-three years since Daniel Chapter One began, thousands of people have benefited from their products and their counsel.

Recently another very important chapter has been developing in the story of Daniel Chapter One; the United States FTC (Federal Trade Commission) has launched a full scale campaign against Jim and Tricia to try to discredit the effectiveness of their healing products. Several months ago, The Canadian FTC (Federal Trade Commission) initiated a complaint against them because of honest claims made on the Daniel Chapter One website. Their specific issue is related to the true testimonies of people cured naturally of cancer, and factual information on the website about the products those people used: the 7 Herb Formula, GDU, BioShark, and BioMixx.

The U.S. FTC responded in a knee-jerk, bizarre manner, by... charging Jim Feijo and Daniel Chapter One with false advertising, false marketing, and with injuring the public. The Commission then ordered the Feijo’s to stop sharing any information about herbs and nutrients that God gave us to help heal cancer, to stop sharing the words of people that have been healed of cancer, and to agree to pay an unspecified amount of money as a fine. Further they demanded that all records of transactions that took place since 2004 be turned over to them.

The Feijo’s do not agree with the charges and have refused to comply with any FTC demands. They maintain that the FTC rules are ungodly and purposed only to promote and protect the interests of the Pharmaceutical Drug Companies, especially that of the Cancer Industry. They do not want YOU to have access to information that may provide you with options if facing serious illness like cancer. They do not want you to be able to freely choose what you will put into your body when you are sick. They want you to stick to the norm, blindly following along the path of man-made remedies that simply don’t work and cause the rich to get richer at YOUR expense. As Jim fondly states on almost every program, “Don’t believe the lie, don’t die!”

Jim and Trish will go as far as the Supreme Court to fight this battle; God’s natural remedies versus unwarranted and self-serving government intervention and they could use some help from you. If you or anyone you know has been helped with the use of their products, please prayerfully consider providing a testimony that attests to that. More information on how to do this can be found at their website: www.danielchapterone.com or you can call 1-800-504-5511. They have a special request: much needed is a public relations person to help get the word of this issue out to many venues. You can listen to Health Watch locally on 1320 AM Monday-Friday, 12-2pm and call in with your health questions at 1-866-222-2368. You can also visit their store located at 1028 East Main Road in Portsmouth, RI, to learn more or purchase products. You might even hear Jim exuberantly proclaim, as he does at the end of every program, “May the truth set you free!”
